Safer drinking water, effective wastewater treatment with alum products
Municipalities use over 60% of the aluminum sulfate produced in the US for applications such as water treatment, wastewater treatment, and lake and pond remediation.
Municipal water treatment facilities prepare water for distribution by getting it as clear and as particulate-free as possible. When applied as a water treatment alum is an effective treatment to:
- Remove turbidity and color, suspended solids and oils
- Break emulsions
- Reduce total organic carbon (TOC)
- Reduce biochemical oxygen demand (BOD)
- Clarify potable, process, and wastewater
Alum is widely used, and although concern over its use in treating water has occasionally surfaced, there is no evidence that alum treatment poses health issues.
